Virginia at Work!
Meet Medora McGinnis, a Virginia nursing student and official IMPRINT Editor for the NSNA!
Becoming a nurse is both rewarding and challenging. What led you to this profession? As a future leader, how will you contribute to nursing?
”My path has been colorful and rich, and continues to be. The Sciences have always intrigued me, but it wasn’t until motherhood that I felt called to Nursing as a career. My first career was in wellness as a Massage Therapist, where I developed the ability to connect with clients through presence and through service. I have enjoyed a healthy career, grown a beautiful family, and now have returned to education to truly challenge myself as I transition through nursing school and into the nursing field; My contributions to Nursing will be creative, full of life, and above all, caring. ”
My skills set is unique – I am coming from a wellness background (massage therapy) and an artistic family (I’m a dancer and my mom is an opera singer). I’m creative, adaptable, and resourceful, as well as genuine. While I don’t know exactly where my career will take me, I am very drawn to babies and pediatrics, and have had practice as a mom making sad or dull things fun. My ultimate goal, unless I discover a totally new niche along the way, is to complete my RN program and move into an RN to BSN, followed by a Master’s program specializing as a pediatric nurse practitioner, as a CHNP. I would love to be a part of research, involved with the nursing community through professional organizations, and connected with the advancement of the industry. And how will I get there? By taking one day at a time, accomplishing one goal at a time.
