Election Q & A

Running for VNSA Board of Directors Positions

State Convention is around the corner and this means it is time to start thinking about running for a state board of directors’ positions. Each position is important to the success of our organization. We would like to see more competition for each position to ensure a successful 2007-2008 board.

Why Run for a Board of Directors Position?

As a state director you will have a chance to make a difference!!! You will help shape the success of VNSA and make a difference in the lives of many nursing students. You will meet many different nursing students that share the same passion. You will also meet many contacts in NSNA, the nursing community, nursing educators and more. State directors are given the chance to go to the state convention, national midyear and spring conventions, and NSNA’s Northeast leadership convention. VNSA cultivates the future leaders of the nursing community. If you want to have fun, meet many different people, travel, be a leader, and make a difference then run for a VNSA Board of Directors Position!

How do you run for Office?

There are two ways to get your self on the official ballot to be elected at state convention in the spring. You can pre-seat yourself by contacting the Nominations and Elections Chair, vnsanominations@gmail.com before February 1 and include what position you want to run for (recommended). Second, at state convention, you can attend the “Running for State Office” meeting where you can learn more about each position and put your name on the ballot.

Once your name is on the ballot you will have to give a short speech at convention (around two minutes) discussing why you should be elected, personal strengths, goals for the upcoming year, and so on. Delegates, from every school, will vote at convention for each candidate.

If you are unsure of the responsibilities of any office feel free to contact this year’s board members to ask them about their experiences thus far.
